Couple Dan and Sharon Wilkins dead in Sandy Springs murder-suicide
A husband and wife are dead after an apparent murder-suicide on Wednesday moing in Sandy Springs.
Police spokesman Sgt. Ron Momon told FOX 5 News that they responded to a 911 call just after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday from a woman saying that her daughter had been shot inside a home in the 7500 block of Chaparral Drive near Dunwoody Club Drive. The mother said the shooter was still at the scene.
Officers arrived to find 54-year-old Sharon Wilkins outside suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Wilkins was transported to North Fulton Hospital where she later died.
Police said they found the body of 65-year-old Dan Wilkins inside the home. It appears he died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Investigators identify him as being Wilkins' estranged husband.
Sgt Momon said investigators were waiting on a warrant before they were able to enter the home.
A spokesperson for the Roswell Police Department said they were assisting Sandy Springs Police with a search of a home in their jurisdiction located in the 600 block of Wood Valley Trace. They said the home is believed to be where the couple last lived together.
Police said they brought in an explosives sniffing dog to the residence due to a text message that was sent to family members prior to the incident.
