Couch-surfer dies in unsurprising yet tragic crash

Couch-surfing (not the crash at your friends' place kind) seems like the sort of thing that should kill you: Hook a sofa up to a car, hit the gas pedal, and tempt fate. In fact, the stunt proved deadly for a young Quebecois man over the weekend.

He and friends decided to attach both a couch and a sled to a truck on a quiet road; disaster struck when a car, approaching from the other direction, was unable to avoid hitting the 22-year-old on the couch.

Luckily, the driver of the other car was unhurt, as were the two men on the sled and the driver of the truck. The latter, however, \"is facing charges of dangerous driving causing death and leaving the scene of an accident,\"

From the Montreal Gazette reports.

One young man is dead another is facing charges after a late-night stunt involving a truck, a sled and a couch went terribly wrong in the Beauce region on Saturday.

According to Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Geneviève Bruneau, a group of young people decided to hook both the sled and the couch to the back of the truck on a rural road in St. Benjamin.

As they were speeding down the road, another vehicle approached from the opposite direction. The driver of that car was unable to stop and struck the couch being dragged, killing the 22-year-old man who had been riding on it.

Two other young men who were riding on the sled were not injured, Bruneau said. The driver of the other vehicle was also unharmed.

The 21-year-old male driver of the truck is facing charges of dangerous driving causing death and leaving the scene of an accident.

Are you worried about young people doing stunts like this one?
