Canada hit by fake iPad scam that would never work in U.S.
Dayna Chabot purchased a bogus 32-gigabyte iPad 2 at Walmart on Jan. 5, 2012. (CTV)

We'll give the crook a bushel of apples for originality. But it's doubtful the customers in Canada who bought phony iPads would be as generous. According to CTV News, new iPads are being swapped out for blocks of clay unbeknownst to retailers.

The scam, which seemingly thrives on Canadians' trusting nature, goes down like this: purchase a new iPad, swap it out for a clay block, retu it, pocket cash. The nefarious mastermind considered every last detail, even placing another block of clay in place of the charger.

Would you fall for this?
