A builder survived a horrific accident in which a steel rod entered his jaw and pierced through his skull.

Li Dehua was working on a construction site in China when he plunged from a six metre (20ft) high window and landed face down on the steel rod.

Miraculously, the 47-year-old is expected to make a full recovery after just 18 days of treatment, despite doctors" initial fears he might not survive.

‘It was one of those freak things whereby the rod must have missed the key bits of my brain," he explained from his hospital bed.

The incident happened in the city of Xi"an in China"s Shaanxi province.
