A man has been jailed for sprinkling his own pubic hair over a curry in order to avoid paying for it.

Lee Tyers had attempted to fool curry house staff into believing his meal had been contaminated, but CCTV footage caught him in the act.

The 40-year-old was eating in Jamal"s Indian Restaurant in Middlesbrough when he complained to a waiter there was some hair in his lamb bhuna.

But restaurant owner Jamal Chowdhury pointed out the fact the hair on the plate was brown and that all his staff members had black hair.

Despite this, Tyers still left without paying, and police were later able to study CCTV footage of the incident, which took place last November

‘He showed me his plate and I said "I gave you a clean plate”. He had eaten everything but then on the side of the plate there was some brown hair," Mr Chowdhury said.

‘It was separate and not mixed into the food. I took it under the light and showed him it was brown hair and said that all the staff in the restaurant have black hair."

Tyers was found guilty of fraud by false representation at Teesside magistrates" court, where he was jailed for two weeks and ordered to pay $61.12 in compensation.
