THE body of a woman who went missing in Mexico nearly one year ago has been found in the water tank of an apartment building after residents complained about a strange taste in their drinking water.

Carmen Yarira Noriega Esparza, 27, was found by health officials called to check the water tank of Grand Chapuletepec apartments in Mexico City, Fox News reports.

They stumbled across a grisly scene with the body of the psychology student and actor found in the tank. Her remains were identified by family members on Christmas Eve, according to the coroners office.

The disappearance of Ms Esparaza, who was last seen leaving the gym in early 2014, has been a mystery. Friends and family had taken to Facebook to find her and it was feared she had been snatched as part of a sex-trafficking operation.
