TIME magazine has thrown its weight behind Beyonce’s insistence that girls run the world, naming the chart-topping singer the most influential person on the planet.

The Grammy-award winning superstar made the cover of the magazine’s annual Top 100 issue, released on Thursday, ahead of other pop icons like Pharrell Williams, Seth Meyers and Kerry Washington.

She even beat Pope Francis, who is honoured in the magazine by US President Barack Obama.

In Beyonce’s own tribute piece, penned by Lean In author Sheryl Sandberg, the diva is celebrated for shattering music-industry records while being a strong role model for women.

“Beyoncé has insisted that girls ‘run the world’ and declared, ‘I’m not bossy, I’m the boss’,” Sandberg writes. “She raises her voice both on- and offstage to urge women to be independent and lead.”

Time said the 2014 list featured a record 41 women, also including Miley Cyrus, Hillary Clinton and Janet Yellen.
