Beauty queen and sister found dead after vanishing the day before Miss World competition

A beauty queen and her sister have been found dead after disappearing following a birthday party on the night before the Miss World competition.

Maria Jose Alvarado, 19, and her 23-year-old sister, Sofia Trinidad, disappeared the night before Ms Alvarado was due to travel to London to represent Honduras in the Miss World contest.

And the pair, who were last seen at the birthday party of Ms Trinidad"s boyfriend, have been found dead in Cablotales village near the Aguagua River.

‘We are 100% sure that it"s them," Leandro Osorio, of the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, told the BBC.

Mr Osorio added that a ‘protected witness" had provided information that had led to the arrest and that a suspect had been detained, and weapons seized.

Honduras has the world"s highest homicide rate, according to a UN report, with 90.4 people murdered per 100,000 of the population.
