Baby Left In Locked Day Care Freed By Firefighters

MABLETON, Ga. - A Mableton daycare center is under investigation after staff went home on Wednesday night and left a sleeping baby inside the facility. Cobb County police had to break into the building to reunite the mother and her child.

The child’s mother, Lakristy Rogers, told FOX 5 she pulled up to the River Oaks Daycare Center on Tuesday night to pick up her 8-month-old daughter just as employees were leaving. She said she could see her child sleeping in the infant room through the blinds, but she couldn’t get in.

Rogers called police, and they broke into the facility to get the child out. The infant was not hurt.

The daycare facility’s owner, Sue Pierce, said she feels terrible about the incident. Pierce says she got the call around 6:40 p.m. telling her what had happened, and by the time she arrived, Rogers and her baby had been reunited.

Pierce says she worked long hours on Tuesday and didn’t do her normal walkthrough before she and her staff locked up for the night. She says she’s taking steps to ensure that the same thing never happens again.

Rogers told FOX 5 she’s confident that her child is safe at the facility.

Cobb County police and the state are investigating the incident.

Sue Pierce, owner of River Oaks Day Care, expressed remorse for leaving a baby in the locked daycare.
