Officials from Zoo Atlanta say the two baby Komodo dragons were hatched August 13 at the Los Angeles Zoo. The dragons are about a foot long but can grow up to nine feet as adults and weigh as much as 150 pounds.

Zoo Atlanta is a participant in the Komodo Dragon Species Survival Plan, but the young pair are siblings and thus are not recommended to breed, say Zoo Atlanta officials.

Komodo dragons are a native of the Indonesian islands of Komodo, Flores, Rinca and Gila Montag.

Zoo Atlanta is also home to an adult male Komodo dragon, Slasher. Slasher -- 18-years old -- has been a popular resident of the Zoos Asian Forest since 1993.
