Man killed in Buckhead Kroger parking lot

- Police are investigating a deadly shooting at a Buckhead Kroger parking lot that left one man dead and at least two suspects on the run.

Police responded to reports of shots fired late Thursday to the Kroger grocery store at 3330 Piedmont Avenue. Upon arrival, they found 45-year-old Derrick Dukes lying on the floor with multiple gun shot wounds. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital but died from his injuries, police said.

Witnesses told police they saw Dukes arguing with at least two other men in front of the Piedmont Road grocery store. The altercation escalated, first into fist fights and then gunfire. The witnesses also said they saw the shooters drive off heading northbound on Piedmont Road in a small, blue vehicle. Its make and model were unknown.

Police are asking other witnesses who may have seen the shooting to contact the Atlanta Police Department with any information.

"We had lot of folks around the parking lot that were kind of looking on, and we feel like there's some witnesses out there that obviously are not here now that we really need to talk to to try to figure out what happened," said APD Homicide Lieutenant Ricardo Vasquez.

Atlanta police are looking for two African-American men. One is 6-feet tall, thin, has dreads and was wearing a white t-shirt. The other is 5'11" and was wearing a red shirt.
