At least 30 hurt and some feared dead as Los Angeles commuter train hits a truck and derails in fiery crash
A commuter train has derailed and several carriages overtued leaving 30 injured and many feared dead following a collision with a tractor-trailer on Tuesday.
Four cars of a Southe Califoia Metrolink commuter train tumbled onto their sides after slamming into a truck on the tracks in Ventura County northwest of Los Angeles. The truck then burst into flames.
The crash was reported at 5.44am on Tuesday and has left at least 30 injured, according to officials.
A Metrolink spokesman told Los Angeles Times that at least 30 people were hurt in train crash.
One train carriage had tued over and was lying half on the tracks and half on the road.
Some passengers were seen being treated in triage areas set up at the scene while others were taken by ambulance to local hospitals.
Firefighters and emergency responders were seen treating numerous people at the scene, ABC7 reported.
Metrolink's website says the train was on a run from Ventura County to Los Angeles.
According to KABC, Ventura County fire officials said that at least one person has died.
Metrolink tweeted: 'VC Line 102 to Los Angeles is stopped between Oxnard & Camarillo due to striking a vehicle on the tracks.'
The company canceled trains on the line on Tuesday and encouraged commuters to seek alteative transport.
The National Transportation Safety Board said on Tuesday: 'We are aware of the rail accident near Oxnard, CA and are currently gathering information about the event.
'We're currently gathering information. A decision whether to launch a team will come later this moing.'
