Are these 'Safety Trucks' the future of road safety?
Ever been stuck behind a massive truck, unable to see what's ahead of you, debating whether to edge out and overtake or not?
Then, you might be interested in these new ‘Safety Trucks'. They use a wireless camera attached to the front of the truck, which connects to a video wall on the back, to show drivers the road ahead.
This way, even on single lane roads, drivers will be able to overtake trucks safely.
Samsung Argentina is hoping its new trucks will reduce the number of accidents caused by drivers overtaking trucks on single lane roads, unaware of what's ahead of them.
In Argentina, almost one person dies in a traffic accident every hour. Most occur in overtaking situations when drivers can't see what's ahead.
Samsung believes its new technology, which also works at night, will save lives.
Tests of prototype trucks have, according to the Korean tech company, already proved successful.
‘The next step,' says Samsung ‘is to perform the corresponding tests in order to comply with the existing national protocols and obtain the necessary permits and approvals.'
The company adds: ‘For this, Samsung is working together with safe driving NGOs and the govement.'
