A woman stole a horse and rode it to a shop where she stole beer and other items, local police have said.

Christine Saunders, 45, is alleged to have taken the horse from a nearby field in Alabama on Saturday before galloping to a shop, where she dismounted and tied it up before entering the store and taking a variety of goods.

DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris said police were called to the shop were they found a drunken Saunders with the items in her hands, and three cans of Keystone light beer in a Walmart bag tied to the saddle of the horse outside.

Saunders was arrested and charged with public intoxication and possession of a prohibited beverage.

Police retued the horse to its owner, who has chosen not to press charges.
