UPDATE: At least 13 people are dead and 20 are injured following a shooting at a college in Oregon.

A gunman opened fire at Umpqua Community College this moing at around 10.40 local time.

According to Douglass County Commissioner Chris Boice, the shooter is in custody. It is said he exchanged shots with police in the college’s Snyder Hall building.

The college is currently on lockdown and agents as well as K-9 units from Portland are checking the college for booby traps and other explosives.

A pop-up treatment centre has been built near the campus to administer treatment on the scene.

The most seriously injured were rushed to nearby hospitals.

Umpqua is 180 miles south of Portland and has around 3,000 full-time and part-time students.

This is the 45th shooting at a school this year, according to Everytown for Gun Safety.
