Bad taste and Halloween costumes have long been associated with each other. From people dressing up as recently deceased celebrities or as racist caricatures.

This year has been no exception with an American missionary in South Africa dressing up as Syrian refugee… causing great outrage on Twitter.

Abigail Dapron"s outfit  was complete with a hijab and a plastic baby doll in a sling. She is currently working in a mission in Weste Cape in South Africa.

The missionary from St Louis, Missouri, posted the image on Instagram with the following hashtags which seemed to show her support, not derision, for the migrants: ‘Perks of having Saudi raised besties ;) #hijabmaster #weloveourrefugeefriends #jesuslovestherefugees #jesuswasarefugee."

And here is Twitter"s reaction to her controversial costume choice:

It's disgusting, insensitive, and only a brainless person would find it funny. How people didn't speak up is beyond me. — Nissy (@naskola) November 1, 2015

Sociopaths do not understand when something is not funny because their brains cannot make the difference #abigaildapron #Halloween — cy12 (@cy12) November 1, 2015

So this girls name is #AbigailDapron ... Shame on her to mock the suffering of people in such an apathetic manner!! pic.twitter.com/8f2Us2pKhO — Mihrimah_Irena (@Mihrimah_Irena) November 1, 2015
