A 78-year-old German man somehow hid a 44-tonne tank in his basement
We don"t know how this 78-year-old man hid a 44-tonne World War II-era Panther tank in his basement.
What we do know is that police in Heikendorf, northe Germany, found it along with a torpedo and an anti-aircraft gun and it took 20 soldiers nine hours to get them all out.
Police were acting on a tip-off when they raided the man"s home. Given the man was 78 years old, officers must have been wondering how he"d kept the tank secret for so long.
And it tued out he hadn"t. In fact, the man and his machine of death was something of an in-joke in the town. Even the mayor was in on it.
‘He was chugging around in that thing during the snow catastrophe in 1978," Alexander Orth told local media.
‘Some people like steam trains, others like tanks."
