7 Arrested In Emory Student Protest

DECATUR, Ga. -- Seven protesters at Emory University have been arrested on trespassing charges after refusing requests to leave a cluster of nine tents and canopies they had set up on the campus quadrangle, school officials said.

Emory said in a statement to The Associated Press that workers broke down and packed up most of the tents Monday evening but a group of protesters moved into the last tent and refused to leave.

Emory officials said that some Emory students might be among the seven protesters arrested, but they were awaiting confirmation of that.

The statement from Emory indicates the students were protesting the university's food services vendor. The students have said they were conceed about how the company treats its workers.
