A 6-year-old girl from Merrimac, Mass. -- known as "Mrs. Bieber" -- who was fighting a rare form of brain cancer, has lost her fight, her doctor said Wednesday.

Avalanna Routh, who had atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor, made headlines several months ago when her dream of meeting Justin Bieber came true. She died Wednesday moing.

"Our darling Avalanna went to Heaven this moing. Oh Avalanna, the brightest star - you took our hearts with you, our greatest love," the family tweeted.

Only about 30 new case of AT/RT are diagnosed in the U.S. each year, according to a website committed to finding a cure for the disease. The cancer is highly malignant, has a high mortality rate and there is no cure.

After her family and friends launched a social media campaign for the girl to meet Bieber, her dream came true when she met with the pop star in New York.

"That was one of the best things I have ever done. She was AWESOME!" Bieber posted on his Twitter account after the meeting.

Avalanna was diagnosed with the disease when she was 8 months old.
