2012 Carnival kicks off in Brazil
Party: The world famous Carnival has kicked off in Brazil with an explosion of colour and music

The world's biggest party has started in Brazil, drawing millions of people to the streets for a raucous celebration of music and mayhem.

Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Salvador, three of the centres of the festivities, have been blanketed by a sea of sequins, feathers and glitter.

The parties jammed into high-gear today, as revelers danced to the beat of samba music pulsating through the cities.
