12 dead and many more injured after head-on train crash in Italy

At least 12 people were killed and many more injured in a train crash in southe Italy.

Shocking pictures show the wreckage of two trains after they were involved in a head-on collision near the city of Bari on the Adriatic Coast.

The trains were on a single-track area of the line, on what appears to be a long bend, and it appears that the frony carriages of the trains disintegrated from the impact.

They were regional trains and the crash happened somewhere between Andria and Corata, according to local media.

The single train line, which runs northwest of Bari in the ‘boot of Italy", is used by over 200 trains every day, and work to add another line to reduce the likelihood of trains colliding was in progress.
