According to numerous reports, at least ten people were injured on Sunday, when a roller coaster left the tracks at a Scottish theme park and fell 30 feet into a children"s ride.

Scottish police confirmed on Sunday afteoon that emergency services were responding to the reports of a derailment at M&D"s amusement park. They said that at least two adults and eight children appeared to be injured on the ride. They were taken to local hospitals.

Police did not comment on the extent of their injuries.

Chief Inspector David Bruce said that a "joint investigation by Scotland Police and HSE (Health and Safety Executive) is now underway. Many of the visitors to the amusement park at the time of incident flocked to social media websites starting at about 4 p.m. local time, after a carriage on the park"s Tsunami roller coaster derailed.

Katie Bus wrote on Facebook "[I] literally got off the Tsunami at M&D"s and then [I was] walking past and the next lot of people get on, and the full thing goes off the tracks,” She went on to say that she had "never been so scared in her life” and that there were "children crying and everything.”

A spokesperson for the park said that it was closed on Sunday afteoon.

"A serious incident occurred at M&D"s today involving the Tsunami roller coaster,” they said in a statement. "We have all emergency services on site to assist.”

According to M&D's, the Tsunami is Scotland's only inverted roller coaster. It reaches speeds of up to 65kmph (40 mph).

It's not the first time emergency response teams have been called to the park. In March, eight people had to be rescued after the Toado roller coaster became stuck. A mechanical failure in July 2011 trapped nine people on the Tsunami roller coaster for hours.
