Worried passengers pop emergency door, evacuate onto wing at Boise Airport
Passengers took matters into their own hands and popped the emergency door, then evacuated onto the wing after an Allegiant Air plane from Los Angeles sprung a fuel leak after landing.
Airport officials said the plane had taxied to the gate shortly after 7 p.m. when an auxiliary motor leaked fuel.
“The fuel looked like vapor, and passengers thought it looked like smoke so they popped the emergency door open and exited on the wing," airport spokesman Sean Briggs told the Idaho Statesman.
Briggs said a few of the passengers jumped from the wing down to the tarmac, but the rest of them waited for a belt loader to help them to the ground.
Nobody was injured in the incident. The MD-80 plane was grounded pending an investigation.
