Woman left dangling when bridge opened

A FUNDRAISING walk for charity took an unexpected tu when a woman was left clinging to a drawbridge which opened over a river.

A participant in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K walk in Florida, 55-year-old Dania Beach was trying to cross the railroad bridge when it opened, leaving her "straddled like Jesus Christ," according to one onlooker.

Witness Philip Glazebrook offered one explanation as to why the bridge opened unexpectedly, claiming it is controlled from a remote location.

"This bridge is controlled from Tallahassee. There's not a bridge minder here anymore. So she's stuck on the bridge and she's going up. The next thing is, she's stuck" he told NBC6.

While it is still unclear why Ms Beach was on the drawbridge, as it was not part of the official route, she was rescued by firefighters after an agonising 20 minutes of suspension.

The charity walk was raising money for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
