Video shows schoolgirl thrown across classroom by school officer

Disturbing footage apparently shows a school girl being slammed to the floor by the faculty’s officer.

The video – thought to be filmed by a fellow student in a South Carolina school – resulted in the resource officer, named as Deputy Ben Fields, being banned.

An investigation was launched after the video surfaced showing him throwing a student across a classroom floor.

The incident, captured on a mobile phone, happened at Spring Valley High School in Columbia.

School officials and sheriff’s deputies said they are investigating what happened.

‘Pending the outcome of the investigation, the district has directed that the school resource officer not retu to any school in the district,’ Richland Two Superintendent Debbie Hamm said.

Deputy Fields will be placed on administrative duties as authorities investigate his handling of the female student, Richland County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Curtis Wilson confirmed.

The video shows Mr Fields asking a girl to rise from a classroom desk. Another adult is standing nearby.

The girl stays seated, so the officer wraps a forearm around the child’s neck.

The officer then tips the attached chair and desk backward until she slams to the floor.

He then throws the girl several feet across the floor to the front of the classroom where he ordered her hands behind her back and applied handcuffs.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott claims he was removing a pupil who had been disruptive in class.

The video then shows the student resisting and being arrested by the officer, he said.

Mr Wilson said later that Mr Lott, who is attending an out-of-town conference, ‘was very disturbed’ by the video but asked for public patience during the investigation.
