ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Four people have died in a plane crash in the Alaska wildeess.

Alaska State Troopers say two others on board survived. Troopers spokeswoman Beth Ipsen did not know their conditions and said the identities of those on board have not been confirmed.

Troopers say rescuers arrived Sunday at the site of the downed Inland Aviation Service plane, which departed Saturday evening from the town of McGrath, about 225 miles northwest of Anchorage.

Steve Hill, one of the owners of Aniak-based Inland Aviation, says a pilot and five Iditarod School District employees were on board the single-engine Cessna 207 and were heading to the village of Anvik, which is about 140 miles to the west.

Ipsen says a spot beacon transmitting a 911 signal was activated 37 miles west of McGrath.
