A TEENAGE girl made a gruesome discovery while playing new virtual reality game Pokemon GO.

19-year-old Shayla Wiggins was using the smartphone app to find virtual Pokémon in a river near her home – but instead stumbled upon a corpse.

The Wyoming girl told KTVQ that she had discovered the body floating in a river near her home on July 8.

She said: "I was trying to get a Pokémon from a natural water resource.

SMASH HIT: The game has been a massive hit all over the world since going live this weekend

"I was walking towards the bridge along the shore when I saw something in the water.

"I had to take a second look and I realised it was a body."

Sheimmediately contacted the police after spotting what she described as a man's body floating about three feet from the shore.

Detectives said that the body had been there for less than 24 hours.

An investigation has been launched into the incident.

Hugely popular Pokémon GO is a free virtual, augmented reality game that lets players "see" Pokémon characters in their surroundings.

It encourages users to walk around outside to try and find hidden characters like a treasure hunt.

As you walk around the game alerts you to where the nearest event, rival trainer or Pokemon can be snared by throwing a "Poke ball" at it.

The hotly anticipated game crashed company servers within 24 hours of its launch as hordes of Pokéfans logged on over the weekend.
