BOSTON -- A Revere man was charged Monday in connection with the shooting death of a former high school hockey star.

Joseph Ronan, 22, was shot several times in his Reading home on Aug. 15 in what police said was a dispute over drugs.

John Burke, 25, was arraigned in Wobu District Court charges of murder in the first degree and illegal possession of a firearm. He was held without bail and scheduled to retu to court on Sept. 23.

On the day of the shooting, police allege Burke went to Ronan's home to buy drugs. Prosecutors said Ronan and Burke knew each other from high school.

Ronan was a former hockey captain at Reading High School and was scheduled to begin Marine training in weeks.
