Police: Pittsburgh Man Andrew Humbles Tried To Rape Woman
PITTSBURGH -- Channel 11 News crews were on the Parkway East early Wednesday moing when police took a man accused of sexual assault into custody.
Investigators said Andrew Humbles, 52, tried to rape a 52-year-old Bethel Park woman at about 12:30 a.m. in an emergency parking area of the Parkway near the Oakland exit.
According to the criminal complaint, Humbles picked up the woman on the city’s North Side. As they were heading to Oakland, Humbles said he ran out of gas and coasted to the emergency pull off. Police said that’s where he tried assaulting the victim by "forcibly removing her shirt and bra and attempting to remove her pants."
The police report went on to say that Humbles saw Pennsylvania Department of Transportation workers and "he got up off the victim, which allowed the victim an escape route to exit the van."
Channel 11's Brandon Hudson spoke to Humbles before police took him to jail.
"I have no clue," Humbles said. "There's nothing that happened in retrospect. They just lumped in. It's a shame."
The woman was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital to be checked out. Her name hasn’t been released. Humbles has been charged with criminal attempted rape, indecent assault and simple assault.
Police records show that Humbles was placed on probation for solicitation in 1996. That same year he was also convicted of simple assault and harassment. Then in 2007, court records indicate that he was charged with rape, indecent assault and false imprisonment but was found not guilty.
