Police Confirm 5 Arrests in Lawrence and Glenna Shapiro Case
The Paradise Valley Police Department announced five arrests in connection to the double murder of a prominent Paradise Valley couple. Only one person is facing murder charges.
"Efforts to locate persons of interest are ongoing, but we believe the major players are in-custody," said Paradise Valley Police Chief John Bennett at a press conference Tuesday.
He added, "There is no evidence that leads us to believe the Shapiros were specifically targeted."
The arrests:
Michael Lee Crane, 31, residence unknown. Facing charges of first degree murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, burglary, arson
Brittany Beinhauer, 27, Tempe (Crane's girlfriend). Facing charges of theft
Kelly Steward, 29, Glendale. Facing charges of theft, trafficking in stolen property
Shawn Nicloy, 29, Phoenix. Facing charges of trafficking in stolen property, hindering prosecution
Danielle Rossman, 26, Phoenix. Facing charges of possession of stolen property, trafficking in stolen property, hindering prosecution
According to court records, Crane has been in and out of jail for drug possession. Crane's mother once told a judge she believes he's bipolar and possibly schizophrenic.
However, the Police Chief did not speculate on a motive.
The case has been submitted to the Maricopa County Attoey's Office, which will file charges. County Attoey Bill Montgomery declined to release any more details, citing sensitivity to the victims' family.
