Details are emerging of a horrific kidnapping in the USA, just months after three women were freed in Cleveland after a 10-year ordeal.

Oklahoma man Clyde Harshaw, 42, was charged today after allegedly kidnapping and torturing his girlfriend for five days, Oklahoma TV station KOTV has reported.

The alleged crime happened in McAlester, Oklahoma, a town of 17,000 residents about an hour southeast of Oklahoma City.

According to the reports, Harshaw allegedly kidnapped his 27-year-old girlfriend after she refused to continue buying him pseudoephedrine, a key component used to make meth.

He then allegedly bound her with extension cords and rope to keep her from escaping, and proceeded to inflict a series of acts of unthinkable cruelty.

These allegedly included cutting her with knives, pouring acid on the wounds and beating her legs with a hammer. He also reportedly used a drill to pull out her hair - holding the drill against her head and using it to pull chunks of hair out.

According to reports, the victim also told police that Harshaw injected her with meth to test its strength.

It is not clear how many days the ordeal lasted, but the woman reportedly escaped through a screen door Harshaw left open after he became distracted while attempting to bu her clothes.

Harshaw is charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, as well as kidnapping and domestic abuse resulting in great bodily injury.

A preliminary hearing has been set for August 1.
