Nudist activists arrested as they marry in San Francisco with no clothes on
A WOMAN who has campaigned against a city's ban on public nudity was charged after she and her groom married in the nude.
Gypsy Taub, a former stripper tued activist, married Jaymz Smith on the steps of San Francisco City Hall. Both bride and groom stripped off after entering the building in normal wedding outfits. Taub had entered wearing a white veil and gown while Smith was dressed in a tuxedo from a charity shop.
San Francisco Sheriff's deputies were also in attendance and after the marriage ceremony, Taub and Smith were arrested when they moved onto a public street in front of the building, the San Francisco Chronicle reported..
They were pulled apart by sheriff's deputies and covered in blankets before being taken to separate cages in a van and cited.
A deputy told Taub she was being taken to the police station but both were released provided both covered up below the waist.
"This is a protest against the nudity ban as much as it is a wedding. I know that the people of San Francisco are behind me," Taub said.
Taub has waged a public campaign against San Francisco's decision to make public nudity illegal, without a parade permit, on February 1.
Previously San Francisco has been known for its clothing optional areas.
