Miss Teen Arkansas Megan Burgess, 19, arrested for public intoxication

A tearful teenage beauty queen has been arrested and charged with public intoxication.

Megan Burgess, 19, was crowned Miss Arkansas Teen USA 2010. She handed her crown over to her successor just two weeks ago.

Police said they received a call from someone at the University of Arkansas student's dorm rooms in the early hours of Sunday moing.

Burgess, who is 5ft9in, had left the dorm and run down the street by herself around 1am, the worried caller said.

Lieutenant Gary Crain with UAPD told a local news channel that the person who made the call was a resident advisor in the dorm who was worried about Miss Burgess. 

Police found the teenager sitting by herself in the woods nearby.

She was apparently unsteady on her feet and police believed she was a danger to herself - so she was arrested.

'We would like not to have to do that but we also cannot take the chance of leaving people out on their own they are not able to take care of themselves,' Lieutenant Crain told local media.

One inteet commentator who apparently hinted at knowing her claimed there was 'pain in her eyes', according to Examiner.com.

The poster apparently claimed the media has not been able to uncover the full story of Burgess' night.

By Sunday afteoon her Facebook page had been removed, according to a local TV station. 

Burgess is set to appear in court in February.
