Longmont Man David Heydenburg Shot 3-Year-Old Daughter, Himself
LONGMONT, Colo. -- Investigators say David Heydenburg apparently left his dog at the Longmont Humane Society's oveight drop-off on Friday, retued home, shot his 3-year-old daughter to death, then killed himself, according to the Boulder Daily Camera.
The newspaper said investigators believe Heydenburg was angry about custody issues and shot his daughter, Allyson Heydenburg, while the child was spending the weekend at his home on Red Mountain Drive.
The bodies of Allyson and David Heydenburg were discovered by police Sunday afteoon after the girl's mother called for a welfare check, Longmont Commander Jeff Satur said.
The mother, who moved out of the home in June, and her teenage son had gone to the home to pick up Allyson and called police when they were unable to get anyone in the home to respond.
Police said they found the bodies in the master bedroom. Officers said they found a lengthy note, but Satur could not go into the details of what it contained.
The couple have been separated for about three months, Satur said. The man had no restraining order, he had partial custody of the girl and the girl was with him this weekend as part of the custody arrangements, Satur said.
A neighbor found Heydenburg's chocolate Labrador at the Longmont Humane Society on Tuesday, Satur said.
