Lion Tacos Pulled from Menu at Florida Restaurant
Tampa restaurant pulled lion tacos from the menu

South Tampa restaurant got local media attention earlier this week for serving exotic types of meat like kangaroo and ostrich, but it pulled the most controversial type of meat, lion, from the menu Thursday, according to the restaurant's website.

Taco Fusion stated on the website:

"Greetings all- Thank you all for the feedback regarding the lion meat promotion at Taco Fusion™ Some of you were supportive, some of you were angry. We listened to everyone and decided to no longer carry Lion.

The lion meat is sold out and we do not plan to carry it again. Thank you all for your feedback."

Taco Fusion manager Brad Baett said in an interview, "Our whole thought process of bringing the exotic meats to the Tampa bay area was to give people the opportunity to try different things that they normally wouldn't get to try."

The restaurant is relatively new on the South Tampa culinary map. It opened its doors in February. They started serving lion meat tacos about four weeks ago. It costs $35 a portion.

Baett said the meat came from an approved distributor and was raised for the purpose of human consumption.

Becky Holbrook, a Taco Fusion customer, said, "I don't think they should be selling that, we don't need that to eat we have enough good stuff to eat."

Initially the restaurant planned on selling the lion tacos as long as people continued buying them, as Baett told us in an interview Wednesday.
