Laid-Off Dad Candido Oliveria Is State's Newest Millionaire
BOSTON -- The winner of a Mega Millions lottery jackpot was shy, but all smiles as he came forward Wednesday to claim his prize.
Candido Oliveria won the $32 million jackpot. The 47-year-old Dorchester father of two will collect a lump sum of more than $15 million after taxes.
The Cape Verdean emigrated to the U.S. 20 years ago. He was recently laid off from his job.
"The first thing I plan to do is take care of my family, my friends," he said.
Oliveria will get his check in about three weeks.
The Neponset Avenue Tedeschi store in Dorchester where he bought the ticket is a lucky store.
It's had several lottery winners in the past and collected $50,000 for selling the winning ticket.
