Ky. Woman Pamela Ivey Wins $1 Million In Mega Millions By Error
GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- A central Kentucky woman won $1 million after a clerk mistakenly applied a prize multiplier to her Mega Millions ticket.
Pamela Ivey, of Georgetown, said she intended to buy a $5 ticket Tuesday, but the clerk at Apple Market accidentally added the Megaplier feature and charged her $10.
“I glanced at her name tag and it said Susan and I thought, ‘Oh Susan, don’t do that to me,’” Ivey said.
Ivey decided to purchase the ticket anyway, and she set it aside and did not check it again until Thursday, two days after the drawing.
The 42-year-old Ivey said she heard the winning ticket had been sold in Georgetown, and she checked the winning numbers online to discover that her $250,000 prize had been multiplied by four.
“I dropped to my knees and praised God,” Ivey said.
Ivey said she and her husband plan to apply some of their winnings toward their son's college tuition, pay off some bills and give to their church.
Ivey's winnings total $690,000 after taxes, and Apple Market will receive $10,000 for selling the winning ticket.
