Jimmy King Arrested

PONTIAC, Mich. - University of Michigan "Fab Five" member and ex-Toronto Raptors player Jimmy King was arrested on accusations he failed to pay $17,000 in child support and ignored repeated waings to get back on schedule, Attoey General Bill Schuette's office said Wednesday.

The 38-year-old was arraigned Wednesday on a charge of failing to pay support he owed for one child in Oakland County. The charge carries up to four years' imprisonment but is commonly used to get parents to settle.

Authorities have been working since 2008 to get King to get up to date with the payments, said Schuette spokesman John Sellek. He said King ignored more than a month's worth of messages to come in and face the charges. Sellek said he couldn't identify the child.

Investigators tracked King to a basketball camp at a northwest Detroit church and arrested him there Tuesday, Sellek said.

"When it comes to child support, you have to play by the rules, no matter who you are," Schuette said in a statement.

King was in the Oakland County Jail in Pontiac on Wednesday night with a $6,500 bond. The jail couldn't say if he had a lawyer.

King, Jalen Rose, Chris Webber, Ray Jackson and Juwan Howard made up the Wolverines' Fab Five in 1991-92 and 1992-93, when Michigan reached the Final Four of the NCAA men's basketball touament.

King played for the NBA's Toronto in 1995-96 and also played in Europe and for the Continental Basketball Association.
