VIOLENT crime has again rocked Jennifer Hudson’s family, six years after the singer and actress lost her mother, brother and nephew in horrific circumstances.

Hudson’s half-brother, Steven Simpson, has this week been arrested for allegedly stabbing a man in the face repeatedly. The man had reportedly been in a relationship with Simpson’s estranged wife.

Simpson is now in custody in Paw Paw, Michigan, and is expected to be charged with home invasion and attempted murder.

In October 2008, Hudson had an Academy Award and debut album under her belt when she was forced to take time out from her career following the brutal murder of several of her family members.

Hudson’s 57-year-old mother, Daell Donnerson, 29-year-old brother, Jason and 7-year-old nephew Julian King were killed by the estranged husband of her sister Julia, William Balfour. Balfour was later charged with three counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to three consecutive life sentences.

Hudson’s family later announced creation of The Hudson-King Foundation for Families of Slain Victims, in honour of the three victims.

Hudson is yet to comment on her brother’s arrest, but with a new album due for release in just a month’s time, it remains to be seen whether family tragedy will once again take the focus off the singer’s career.
