Inmates to get MP3 players in jail, but racy songs are blocked

Does a caged bird sing? We're about to find out as MP3 players are about to become available to federal inmates for the first time. Convicts won't exactly have free rein over iTunes: No songs with explicit or racially charged lyrics will be permitted.

USA Today notes that Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley opposes this perk for convicts, conceed that inmates will use the MP3 players as "bargaining chips or other malicious devices." But representatives from the ACLU's National Prison Project, which championed the cause, adorably says access to music will help inmates cope with idleness, stress and boredom while providing a link to the outside world.

Convicts jailed before 2001 don't understand what all the hoopla is about.

Should inmates be allowed to get MP3 players?
