#Ilooklikeanengineer: People shame advert of attractive female engineer
A lot of engineers were left disappointed by the negative reaction to this job advert which featured an attractive female engineer, Isis Wenger, smiling.
As a result they fought back with a series of Twitter selfies with the hashtag #ilooklikeanengineer.
Sadly, it seems people still need to realise engineers aren’t all white middle-class and addicted to Meccano and Star Trek (The Kirk Years).
Sexism in the tech community was much in evidence with people complaining on social media that Ms Wenger doesn’t represent what ‘a female software engineer looks like’.
People said she’s just a model and some were even angry about her ‘sexy smirk’.

Little did Wenger know what would happen after her last minute involvement in this campaign for OneLogin Engineering.
She wrote on Medium: ‘At the end of the day, this is just an ad campaign and it is targeted at engineers. This is not intended to be marketed towards any specific gender — segregated thoughts like that continue to perpetuate sexist thought-pattes in this industry.
‘Others think that this is unbelievable as to what “female engineers look like”. News flash: this isn’t by any means an attempt to label what female engineers look like.
‘This is literally just ME, an example of ONE engineer at OneLogin. The ad is supposed to be authentic. My words, my face, and as far as I am conceed it is.’
