Huge blaze breaks out at Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas: Hundreds of tourists forced to flee as flames consume rooftop of hip hotel

One person has been taken to hospital after a blaze erupted on a Las Vegas hotel rooftop.

The fire, which raged at the Cosmopolitan Hotel around midday local time, spewed plumes of black smoke across the famous strip.

Palm trees and most of the surrounding pool area was badly damaged.

Clark County Fire spokeswoman Sandra Baker said: ‘Fire crews are currently on scene of a fire on the outside pool area where trees and pool cabanas were on fire.

‘There is a report that the fire has been put out and crews are handling smoke evacuation and checking for any extension to building.’

One person is in hospital but the extent of their injuries is not known.
