Houston Mom Rebekah Sanders Kills 2 Children; Shoots Self

HOUSTON -- A mother killed her two young children before shooting herself inside a northwest Harris County home on Tuesday, investigators said.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said the children's bodies were found in the 16100 block of Sandy Path Lane about 7 p.m.

Detectives said the victims were Gabriel Nathan Sanders, 3, and Gabrielle Yvonne Woods, 5.

Officials have not said how the children were killed. An autopsy will determine their causes of death.

Investigators said the mother, Rebekah Sanders, shot herself in the head. She was taken by medical helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition. Detectives said it is unlikely that she will survive, but will face capital murder charges if she does.

Deputies have not said why the mother killed the children.

Neighbors were shocked.

"It's a real quiet neighborhood. It's real family-oriented neighborhood. It's a real shock," Adrian Cole said.

Cole said the family had just moved into the duplex a few months ago.

"We really didn't get a chance to know each other that well," Cole said.

"It doesn't make me feel uneasy that it happened here, but it makes you wonder how you could do something to your children," neighbor Jackie Zenon said.

Neighbors said Sanders and her children kept to themselves and seemed to be the only ones who lived in the home.

An investigation is under way.
