Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati: Will the real Kevin Lewis please stand up

IN A costly case of mistaken identity, a US casino accidentally minted two new millionaires who shared the same name.

When Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati announced that Kevin Lewis was the winner of a $1 million giveaway, local man Kevin L Lewis excitedly got up to claim his new fortune in front of a large, expectant crowd, according to ABC WXYZ.

But the real winner, another entrant also named Kevin Lewis, was at home when the result was announced.

The casino didn't realise it had made an error until Kevin L Lewis stood before cameras to accept his prize, and after a final verification had mistakenly confirmed the man as the winner.

Horseshoe senior vice president and general manager Kevin Kline said the casino practices two levels of verification for its giveaway contests, but would not say how this error occurred.

"This was our blunder," Mr Kline said. "So, consistent with our commitment to do the right thing for our guests, Horseshoe awarded a $1 million prize to each of the men."
