George Zimmerman arrested on aggravated assault charge
George Zimmerman, who was acquitted of second-degree murder in 2013 for the death of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin, was arrested again late Friday evening, according to WFTV.
The arrest for aggravated assault occurred at 10:10 p.m. on Friday night, according to the John E. Polk Correctional Facility booking record.
Don West, Zimmerman's attoey, told the media that Zimmerman allegedly threw a wine bottle at his girlfriend earlier this week.
His first court appearance for the incident was scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday. According to WFTV, the judge granted Zimmerman a $5,000 bond and ordered that he surrender all firearms. He also is forbidden to have contact with the victim and is not allowed to consume alcohol.
Zimmerman is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 17.
Since the high-profile Trayvon Martin case, Zimmerman, 31, has been arrested multiple times.
In 2013 he was arrested for a domestic violence dispute with his estranged wife, who did not press charges. That same year, Zimmerman was arrested again on domestic violence after an encounter with a girlfriend, who ultimately changed her story and dropped the charges.
Zimmerman's most recent arrest before Friday was in Sept. 2014 for road rage. The alleged victim in the incident also chose not to press charges.
