Former transit GM John Whittaker pleads guilty to larceny
BOSTON (AP) - The former general manager of the Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority has been sentenced to 18 months in jail after pleading guilty to two charges of larceny over $250
The state's Attoey General's Office says John Whittaker, a 48-year-old Methuen resident, pleaded guilty Thursday for stealing more than $120,000 in bus fares from the vault in the authority's money room.
Prosecutors say Whittaker stole the fares over a two and a half year period. He was hired in February 2007 and arraigned June 15, 2010.
Whitaker will be on probation for five years after his sentence. A hearing to determine how much Whittaker will pay in restitution to the authority has not been set.
