Finally, a woman is being put on the $10 bill
A woman is being put on a brand spanking new version of the $10 bill. Whoop.
Now, the treasury just needs to find the perfect woman to feature on the new bank note.
It will be the first time in history that the note, due out in 2020, will feature a woman in the portrait spot.
Officials say they want to feature a woman to coincide with the 100th anniversary of women getting the vote in America.
However treasury secretary, Jacob Lew, said Alexander Hamilton, one of the country’s founding father’s will stay on the note in some form.
Lew is due to announce which woman has been selected to appear on the currency at the end of the year.
The treasury department hope people will use the hashtag #TheNew10 “to express what democracy means to them and to spread the word about the redesign.”
The only criteria for a nominee is that they be dead.
Hamilton and Benjamin Franklin, who is on the $100, are the only non–U.S. presidents currently featured on bills.
