Cop Edmund Scipione arraigned in drunk driving case
FALL RIVER - The Bastable police detective accused of drunken driving and reckless endangerment of a child was arraigned in court on Wednesday.
Edmund Scipione, of Centerville, was released on unspecified bail, the Fall River Herald News reported.
The 41-year-old Scipione is accused of taking a 9-year-old Bastable Little League player on a harrowing, 7½-hour ride from Cape Cod to an all-star touament last month in Rehoboth. The boy jumped out of the vehicle and ran for help. Scipione was an assistant coach on the team.
Scipione was originally scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 15. His first date in court, which was scheduled for July 11, was postponed when the detective checked himself into rehab.
Swansea police arrested Scipione on July 9.
