BOSTON Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsaaev scribbled a note on the boat he hid in during a city-wide manhunt.

Tsaaev wrote with a pen on the inside wall of the boat’s cabin, said the bombings were payback for US military action in Iraq and Afghanistan, and said he would not miss his older brother Tamerlan Tsaaev, who was killed in an earlier police shoot-out, CBS news reports.

He called the victims of the bombings collateral damage, and compared it to Muslims who have been killed in US-led wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"When you attack on Muslim, you attack all Muslims," he scrawled with a pen on the wall.

Tsaaev wrote that his older brother was now a martyr in paradise and that he expected to join him there.

The brothers allegedly set off the bombs that killed three people and injured more than 260 at the Boston Marathon on April 15.

Tsaaev was found, bleeding from a gunshot wound, hiding in the boat by a homeowner who emerged from his house in suburban Boston after a city-wide lockdown was lifted.

The note was riddled with bullet holes from shots fired by police into the boat when they feared he had another bomb, CBS News reports.

Tsaaev reportedly admitted to his part in the attacks while in hospital, but stopped talking when he was informed of his Miranda Rights including the right to remain silent.

This note would be supporting, admissible evidence at his trial even if his hospital confession is not accepted as evidence, CBS reports.

Tsaaev has been charged with using a weapon of mass destruction and malicious destruction of property causing death, and could face the death penalty if found guilty.

Last week, Tamerlan was finally buried in a cemetery outside Worchester, Virginia after a frustrating search for a community willing to take the body.
