Cherish Peterson, 27 from Gilbert, Arizona said she was rushing around a Fry's grocery store trying to buy her nephew candy for his birthday on Monday when she forgot about her baby son Huxton

An Arizona mother has been charged with child endangerment, after she admitted that she when she mistakenly left her baby in a shopping cart and drove away.

Cherish Peterson told KPHO that she rushed into a Phoenix grocery store to buy candy for a nephew's birthday. She had three of her four small children with her, but left the 2-month-old boy in a cart in front of the store, according to police. 

The baby was found almost immediately and was taken inside a nearby salon. 

The baby was not hurt. Police said Peterson retued to look for her baby within 40 minutes after she realized what happened.

"As I was pulling into the garage, my 3-year-old goes, Where's baby Huxton?" Peterson said. "His car seat is right behind me. I tued around and realized it was gone."

Peterson was charged with one misdemeanor count of child endangerment, KPHO reported.
